According to the experiment of the French scientist, the color change and production of a gas are indicators of the chemical reaction he did. If there was no color change and no production of gas, the red solid would stay the same, so there was no chemical reaction happening.
So if there are no indicators during a chemical reaction, the chemical reaction doesn't actually happen.
