Superman is at rest in space when he throws an asteroid that has more mass than he does. Which moves faster, Superman or the asteroid?
A. Superman
B. The asteroid
C. They both move at the same speed.
Remember, Superman is at rest and the asteroid has more mass than Superman. Consider the same situation with a discus thrower, the discus is going to move faster because it is originally at rest and then spun around and released. The discus has less mass than the thrower, just like Superman in this case being the thrower of the asteroid. He would fly in the opposite direction of his toss with some momentum since their is no air in outer space to slow him down (air resistance).
