When it comes to the aufbau diagram, what does it mean when you fill up the little boxes?

The little boxes represent how many electrons can fill up each orbital energy (2 per box according to the blocks (s, p, d, f, etc.).

The term “Aufbau” comes from the German word for “building up,” and it describes how electrons fill the energy levels in an atom. When writing electron configurations, orbitals are built up from atom to atom. When writing the electron configuration for an atom, orbitals are filled in order of increasing atomic number. However, there are some exceptions to this rule.
